Upset

The lower-ranked entity beat the higher-ranked one. The record and the ladder disagree.

An upset across the smallest gap the ladder has, and there is a reason to keep it small. The two versions of the tournament take different routes to the same elimination, which makes this one of the few results they share. What it does not involve is the state the Vegeta entry is placed from: that arrives two arcs later and has never been put in front of Jiren. The order rests on that missing meeting, and it is the first placement to revisit if one is ever drawn.

The connecting record

Jiren beat Vegeta in Dragon Ball Super (manga).

Knocked off the arena, which is how the Tournament of Power scores a loss. The anime also has Jiren eliminate him, by another route.

Better evidenced than almost anything else at this level, because his entire record sits inside one bounded event that was shown end to end. He holds off Goku in ultra instinct, outlasts most of a multi-universe field, and is stated to exceed his own universe's god of destruction. Nothing about him requires inference across arcs — the tournament is the citation.

Ultra ego is the more interesting of the two late states because it is built on a different principle — damage taken converts into output, so the longer he loses the harder he hits. It is manga-only and has never been animated. The record shows the mechanism working, then shows it insufficient against the Frieza who closes that same arc, inside the arc that introduced it.

Vegeta on the Dragon Ball ladder

What this does not settle

One fight in one work. It is the only result the record gives between these two, and it is evidence about that meeting and nothing wider — not a general matchup, not a rematch, and not a ranking of its own.

The ladder above it is argued from everything either of them has been shown doing; this page is argued from one citation.

Where the two disagree, the disagreement is the point, and it stays visible rather than being resolved by whichever of them happens to be on this page.
