The Rulers vs Antares

The killerThe RulersSolo Leveling · off the scale
The victimAntaresSolo Leveling · rank 2

Two separate reasons for the ladder to stay still, and either would do. The killers are off it by design, and the killing itself was spent: the party that ran Antares through reversed it themselves, emptying the cup because rank one asked. What the record does establish is how they reached him. They came through only once Sung Jinwoo's fight had bent space far enough to admit them, so this is a kill that needed somebody else's battle as its door. Killing the second-ranked entity on another fighter's timing, then taking the death back with their own hands, is what an unrated party looks like from inside the ladder.

The connecting record

shownundoneSolo Leveling

The Rulers killed Antares in Solo Leveling.

Run through from every direction at once, by the party he had spent the whole war trying to reach. Then the same party spent the last of the cup putting him back, at the request of the man he had been fighting.

The party that never found out the instrument was there

Web novelWebtoonnovelcomic

Never learned the instrument existed. It was written by one Monarch's ally for one Monarch's purpose, and word of it reached nobody on their side, which is why the faction that spent the whole war hunting vessels never thought to grow one. A fragment of their authority does reach the page in a human's hands, and Thomas Andre spends that fragment on Sung Jinwoo across an abandoned factory — at which point there is a hunter to grade, a fight to score and a result to cite. None of it attaches back to whoever lent it. What the Rulers hand out acquires a figure the moment a person carries it, and they themselves stay off a scale they were never shown.

King of Dragons, Monarch of Destruction

Web novelWebtoonnovelcomiccontested

Burned the hunter who met him at the Canadian gate to cinders and turned an army loose across the country to make the Shadow Monarch come out. Countered everything Sung Jinwoo threw on that island and offered to call the extinction off in exchange for help against the Rulers. Lost his temper instead, left an opening, and took his father's dagger nearly through the middle — then understood that the fight he had been winning was the method, its distortion of space being what let the Rulers in.

Antares on the Solo Leveling ladder

What this does not settle

One death in one work. It is the only place the record puts these two in the same room, and it is evidence about that meeting and nothing wider — not a general matchup, not a rematch, and not a ranking of its own.

The ladder above it is argued from everything either of them has been shown doing; this page is argued from one citation.

Where the two disagree, the disagreement is the point, and it stays visible rather than being resolved by whichever of them happens to be on this page.
